Melbourne H2O Swimming Club
As a not-for-profit committee led club, Melbourne H2O Swimming Club is the largest Masters swimming club in Victoria and the second largest nationally, with 200 active members. Based in the heart of one of Melbourne’s most dynamic suburbs, Prahran, our club is a vibrant, inclusive, and high-performing community of swimmers aged 18 to 80. Our members range from fitness-focused swimmers to elite national and world championship medallists, including English Channel swimmers.
This role can be split with an assistant coach for an applicant wishing to work part time.
We Offer 14 Structured Squad Sessions Weekly
Monday to Thursday: 05:45–07:15, 07:15–08:30, and 17:30–19:00
Friday: 05:45–07:15 and 07:15–08:30

Key Strengths & Attributes
Multi-Tasking Maestro - Able to coach three lanes simultaneously, each with swimmers of varying abilities and goals. You’ll be comfortable managing complexity and adapting in real-time.
Creative Set Designer - You bring flair and imagination to your sessions, crafting workouts that challenge elite athletes while engaging fitness swimmers. Your sets are memorable, enjoyable, and effective.
Inclusive Motivator - You foster a squad culture where every swimmer feels valued, supported, and inspired to return. You understand that motivation is personal and know how to tap into it. A key focus will be encouraging members to participate in the annual Victorian State Relay Championships - for many their first foray into competitive swimming.
Innovative Technician - You have a deep understanding of stroke mechanics and can teach all four strokes in ways that resonate with swimmers of all levels. You’re always seeking new ways to help swimmers improve.
Mentor & Manager - You’ll oversee the accreditation and development of our volunteer coaches, manage the Saturday coaching roster, and provide ongoing mentorship to ensure coaching excellence across all sessions. Attending up to 4 targeted meets per year, you will mentor and saupoert swimmers in achieving their competitive swimming goals.
Community Builder - You understand that swimming is more than just laps – it’s about connection. Collaborating with the committee, you’ll help maintain and grow our club’s reputation as a welcoming, fun, and high-performing community, through participation in club community events and maintaining a social media presence.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must hold an Advanced Coaching accreditation or higher
- Experience coaching adult swimmers, in a Masters or club environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work early mornings and evenings
- Experience of mentoring or managing other coaches is highly desirable
