Primary purpose of position
The Operator/Labourer is responsible for supporting the Maintenance team in maintaining Port infrastructure and assets necessary to complete all Port works programs effectively and efficiently.
Annual Salary $72,909 - $83,798 (excluding Super)
Responsibilities
Position specific responsibilities
- Maintain the Port’s wharves and equipment, boat ramps, boat moorings and navigational leads etc.
- Operate the Port’s floating plant and equipment; mobile plant and machinery.
- Carry out structural/mechanical repairs, maintenance and installation/commissioning to Port plant, equipment and services.
- Ensure the prompt repair of breakdowns to miscellaneous plant as it arises.
- Provide and maintain records of time and materials utilised, prepare materials lists, complete and return inspection check sheets, comply with maintenance and service schedules and report schedule deficiencies.
- Actively provide positive input and solve day to day job problems and establish and improve work methods in the course of maintenance and repair work.
- Ensure compliance of the Port’s use of TAKE 5 and Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) with all tasks and assist with Job Safety Environmental Analysis (JSEA’s) when required.
- Perform periodic inspections and testing of emergency equipment including oil pollution equipment, fixed and mobile plant to ensure equipment is fully functional.
- Participate in port emergency responses and associated training as directed to assist with successful restoration of the Port back to an operating capacity in the event of an emergency.
- Any other duties commensurate with level and accountabilities, or as directed by leadership.
- Contribute to the Port’s strategic plans including the Statement of Corporate Intent, Corporate Plan and Port Vision 2050.
- Ensure appropriate health and safety, environmental management, quality and information security practices are implemented for all works to comply with the Port’s policies and relevant legislation.
- Comply with all relevant legislation, codes of practice and standards.
- Promote a Zero Harm culture and continual improvement in our Health and Safety management and performance.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
Mandatory Requirements/qualifications/tickets/licences
- Current Queensland C class Driver Licence.
- Hepatitis A Vaccination.
- Tetanus Vaccination.
- Hepatitis B Vaccination.
- Construction Induction (White Card).
- Pre-employment Medical - Functional 20kg.
Skills And Experience
- Experience working in a marine infrastructure maintenance environment.
- This position requires frequent manual handling including bending and high reaching, ladder climbing, and working in positions with difficult access, extended periods of standing and walking on uneven surfaces and extended periods of working in non-shaded, non-air-conditioned workspaces.
- Demonstrated experience in the operation of construction and maintenance plant and equipment.
- Sound knowledge of plant operating and maintenance techniques and general construction processes.
- A working knowledge of workplace health and safety, oil pollution equipment and operation, environmental legislation, including hazard and risk management.
- Sound knowledge of plant operating and maintenance techniques and general construction processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, electrical schematics and manuals.
- Ability to determine own work requirements and work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem solving and organisation skills.
Software/Systems Skills
Highly desirable/ability to obtain criteria. Candidates will need to have, or have the ability to obtain the following qualifications/tickets/licences:
- Provide First Aid (required within 3 - 6 months).
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (required within 3 - 6 months).
- Shipboard Safety Skill Set (required within 3 months).
- Queensland MR class Driver Licence (required within 6 months).
- Maritime Security Identification Card (required within 3 months).
- Use Basic Equipment for Oil Spill Response (subject to AMSA/MSQ training schedule).
- Operate Elevated Work Platforms up to 11m Ticket (required within 3 - 6 months).
- Conduct Backhoe/Loader Operations Ticket (required within 3 - 6 months).
- Isolate and Access Plant (required within 3 months).
- Work Safely at Heights Ticket (required within 3 months).
- Coxswain Grade 3 (required within 6 - 12 months)
- Forklift Truck – LF High Risk Work Licence (required within 3 - 6 months).
- Operate a Gantry or Overhead Crane Ticket (required within 3 - 6 months).
- VOC – Overhead bridging Crane Maintenance Workshop (required within 3 months).
- Ability to Obtain Licences as required (required within 3 - 6 months).
- Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Part 1 (required within 3 months).
- Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Part 2 (required within 6 - 12 months).
