About the Role
As the Group Fitness Manager, you’ll lead the strategy, coordination, and delivery of our group fitness offerings across the club. You’ll be responsible for curating an inspiring timetable, managing a passionate team of instructors, and ensuring consistently high standards of experience and execution in every class. The Group Fitness Manager will have a strong understanding of and interest in concepts including reformer, yoga and mindfulness. Alongside leading the team, the Group Fitness Manager will also instruct and deliver classes, with experience teaching yoga, reformer, movement or mindfulness classes.

You’re a natural leader with a deep passion for movement and group training. With strong communication skills and a keen eye for quality, you know how to manage and inspire a team of instructors while also keeping the energy and culture of the club high. You’re organised, proactive, and confident curating a balanced and engaging timetable. Whether you're jumping in to cover a class, mentoring instructors, or fine-tuning programming, you bring a solution-focused attitude and a deep commitment to delivering world-class fitness experiences.
This role will work across both our Richmond and South Yarra locations.
Key Responsibilities
Class Schedule & Instructor Rosters
- Ensure a well-balanced class schedule that meets member needs.
- Manage instructor rosters, leave approvals, and emergency cover requests.
- Understand and apply the Fitness Industry Award, ensuring compliance and rejecting non-compliant roster changes.
Talent Acquisition & Retention
- Attract, audition, and hire exceptional instructors and concept leads.
- Foster a supportive environment that retains top talent and motivates performance.
Management & Leadership
- Provide coaching and leadership to instructors and concept leads.
- Encourage a culture of excellence and continuous improvement across the team.
Team Member Development & Training
- Manage the group fitness training budget and approve all workshop/training requests.
- Ensure concept leads deliver regular, high-quality workshops and training sessions.
- Oversee instructor development plans, training attendance, and progression tracking.
Class Instruction & Delivery
- Lead high- quality classes in your area of expertise, delivering dynamic and engaging sessions that align with The Commons' brand and member expectations
- Create a motivating, positive class atmosphere where members feel encouraged, supported and inspired
Class Preparation & Planning
- Prepare class content ahead of time, ensuring that each session is well structured and meets the diverse needs of preparation
- Adapt your class programming based on member feedback and ongoing trends in the fitness industry
Class Quality & Consistency
- Monitor class quality with support from concept leads, ensuring brand standards are upheld.
- Regularly review and evolve class offerings to enhance the member experience.
- Ensure the program appeals to a diverse range of fitness levels and interests.
- Stay informed on current fitness trends and bring new ideas to continually improve the program.
Member Experience & Retention
- Build relationships with members and actively seek feedback.
- Create an inclusive, community-driven group fitness environment.
- Implement improvements based on member input to increase satisfaction and retention.
- Track and report on key metrics such as attendance, class popularity, and member feedback.
Safety & Compliance
- Oversee equipment maintenance, repairs, and timely upgrades.
- Ensure all classes and instructors meet health and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of instructor certifications.
Marketing & Event Support
- Collaborate with the marketing team to promote classes and special events.
- Plan and execute fitness events, challenges, and seasonal launches to engage members.
General
- Support with sales, marketing, and operational initiatives as required.
- Assist management in the implementation of key projects, including new location openings.
