About the role
This part-time (3 days per week) Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Dietitianrole at Pancare Foundation provides an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families affected by Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer. Pancare Foundation is based in Heidelberg, Victoria. As part of the support team, you will deliver expert nutrition support, education, and evidence‑based advice, assist with symptom management, and help callers navigate the nutritional challenges associated with treatment. What you'll be doing
1. Support people impacted by upper GI cancer
- Provide person-centered evidence-based nutritional information and guidance to adults with upper GI cancer via phone, email, and online to support understanding of nutrition-related issues and access to appropriate care.
- Respond to enquiries from health care professionals regarding questions related to supporting the nutrition care of patients with upper GI cancer.
- Maintain accurate records of all client interactions whilst adhering to relevant privacy and confidentiality legislation and policy.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitate successful collaboration resulting in high consumer satisfaction, and facilitate effective communication and coordination, contributing to a high-quality consumer experience.
- Contribute to team meetings and case discussions relevant to helpline service delivery meetings, e.g., team meetings.
- Independently manage a caseload, including responding to enquiries, providing information and support, and facilitating navigation to appropriate services.
- Recognise and escalate clinical or psychosocial concerns, including referral to appropriate treating teams or services in line with Pancare Foundation protocols.
- Represent Pancare Foundation in a professional capacity at relevant meetings, workshops, and conferences as needed.
- Contribute to the development and review of Pancare Foundation nutrition resources, fact sheets, and patient education materials.
- Participate in webinars, community education sessions, or online support groups as needed.
- Ability to travel interstate as required.
2. Contribute to the development of the Pancare Foundation support programs
- Assist in the development and evaluation of Pancare Foundation services, including reporting as required.
- Identify and address emerging consumer needs or service gaps in consultation with the Pancare Foundation support team.
- Work in collaboration with the Special Projects Manager to develop the model of care that supports Pancare Foundation's dietitian service.
- Collaborate cross-functionally and form strong relationships and partnerships internally and externally to raise awareness about Pancare Foundation services.
3. Reporting, Evaluation, Accountability
- Maintain records on Salesforce of all case management-related activities in accordance with organisational guidelines.
- Regularly review service data and identify areas for quality and service improvement.
- Actively contribute to the collection, interpretation and reporting of data and consumer insights to inform service evaluation.
- Administer and evaluate patient-reported outcome/experience Measures (PROMs/PREMs) as required.
- Maintain current professional knowledge of upper GI cancer supportive care and palliative care for current program delivery.
- Remain current on the latest research regarding nutritional support for people impacted by upper GI cancer.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of oncology nutrition and upper GI cancer care.
- Adhere to Dietitians Australia professional standards and Pancare Foundation clinical governance frameworks.
- Participate in regular team supervision and meetings.
What we're looking for
Current Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) status with Dietitians Australia, including active professional membership and the ability to meet mandatory employment requirements, including holding a valid and current National Police Check.
At least five years of post‑qualification clinical experience as a dietitian, including substantial oncology practice with:
- Experience working across health systems or sectors (e.g., hospital, community, non-government), with an understanding of referral pathways and access to care.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a defined scope of practice, recognising the boundaries of a non-treating, advisory role and the importance of referral to appropriate clinical services.
- Ability to work autonomously in a remote environment, managing complexity while operating within defined protocols and scope of practice.
Demonstrated specialist clinical experience supporting people affected by upper GI cancer (essential).
Demonstrated expertise in managing complex nutrition issues arising from cancer and its treatment, together with strong knowledge of relevant services and referral pathways for ongoing therapeutic and supportive care.
Superior organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to work independently, manage workload effectively, and maintain professional boundaries within a support team environment.
Experience in recognising and responding to risk including when escalation or referral is required.
Use appropriate interventions and support people with complex needs and distress, as needed.
Demonstrated understanding of roles, responsibilities, and interfaces across the cancer care continuum with experience working effectively within multidisciplinary cancer care pathways, including active participation as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Highly developed written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the capacity to communicate empathetically, clearly, and effectively to diverse audiences and provide practical, evidence-based, person‑centred advice.
Intermediate to advanced digital literacy, including strong competency in Microsoft Office (Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience using database systems such as Salesforce.
Demonstrated alignment with Pancare Foundation's mission and values, with a positive and collaborative approach and an inclusive and supportive team player.
Demonstrated self-awareness, resilience, and ability to manage the demands of supporting people affected by an upper GI cancer in a remote setting.
