Your role:
Be a part of history, working with conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines. This game-changing capability provides superior stealth, speed and range that meet Australia’s long-term defence needs.
As a Nuclear Submarine Officer in the Navy, you will oversee day-to-day operations including everything from communications and navigation to armament, and tactical deployment of the submarine.
Your typical day could see you in charge of any of the following:
- Leading and managing teams
- Overseeing nuclear propulsion system operations
- Onboard weapons systems management
- Driving the vessel and charting its position
- Communications and intelligence equipment operation
Your training will first equip you with technical expertise in nuclear propulsion, the platform, and its equipment. You will then move into your submarine qualification and oversee day-to-day operations, and you could one day lead the entire crew as Commanding Officer.

Salary:
Competitive Salary + Generous Superannuation of 16.4%
Upon completion of your initial military and employment training, you’ll enjoy a salary package starting from $138,356 per annum.
Eligibility:
- For this role, you must be at least 17 at the time of appointment, an Australian Citizen, have completed Year 12 and obtained a high enough entrance rank to qualify entry into the relevant degree program.
- If you have a recognised bachelor’s degree of at least 3 years and a pass in first year calculus and calculus-based physics as part of or in addition to your degree, you can apply you can apply for an officer role through Graduate Entry.
